I kid you not, these things came out of my boss' mouth yesterday. We were at happy hour in a relaxed/casual atmosphere, but still....
Boss: "Do you want to have more kids?"
Me: "Yes."
Boss: "Good thing you're leaving so we don't have to pay your maternity leave. You're the County's problem now!"
"Would you have sex in a trailer?"
"Isn't that chick over there hot?"
Me: "I think I might get a badge at my new job."
Boss: "Really? So you'll go around flashing your badge? Just don't flash your vag."
OMG.
OMG.
OMG!
I am more upset about the maternity leave comment than the other run of the mill misogyny. I think as much as you love litigation and this firm has been great in some ways, you're well clear of it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Butterflyfish about the maternity leave comment.
ReplyDeleteBut . . . sexual harassment in the form of completely inappropriate comments is okay during happy hour, once you have left the office? I can't believe he thinks this is acceptable behavior--anywhere or anytime! Even if this is how he shows his anger that you are leaving, it is very disturbing.
Glad you have found a new and exciting place to work! Far away from him.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew...or you sure you're not just misremembering an episode of The Office? Seriously?!
ReplyDeleteNot appropriate, ugh. And the maternity leave comment - can you hear me growling from over here? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Maternity leave is a short term investment in a long term employee, yet people act like it's a freaking million dollars they are beneficently bestowing on the undeserving.
ReplyDeleteHe sounds like a creep. Asking you where you'd have sex? Not, in my experience, something a guy asks you unless he's ASKING you.
ReplyDeleteAwful and horrible? yes. Laugh out loud hilarious when you wrote that he said not to flash your vag? YES.
ReplyDeleteWhat a ******canoe.
